Jakarta (11/06) — Chairman of the PKS Faction in the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Jazuli Juwaini, strongly condemned the Israeli military’s abduction of Swedish humanitarian and environmental activist Greta Thunberg, along with 11 other activists aboard the Madleen ship, which was delivering humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza on Monday (June 9).
The ship, part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), was reportedly in international waters when it was forcibly intercepted by Israeli forces. This action is not only aggressive and provocative but also constitutes a serious violation of international law and humanitarian principles.
“This action by Israel cannot be tolerated. It is a form of colonial arrogance that violates international maritime law and disregards human rights principles,” asserted Jazuli, who also serves as a member of Commission I of the Indonesian Parliament.
The PKS Faction urges the Indonesian government to issue a strong diplomatic protest and calls on the United Nations Security Council and relevant international bodies to:
1. Immediately pressure Israel to release all activists detained unlawfully.
2. Impose firm sanctions for this breach of international law.
3. Ensure the protection and safety of all humanitarian missions aiding the people of Palestine.
“Those delivering humanitarian aid, including Greta Thunberg, represent global courage and solidarity with the suffering of the people of Gaza. The international community must not remain silent. Silence is a form of complicity in the face of injustice,” said the legislator from the Banten electoral district.
The PKS Faction reaffirms its commitment to defending the struggle of the Palestinian people and supporting all humanitarian efforts that seek justice and the right to a dignified life for the residents of Gaza under Israeli occupation.
