Yogyakarta (16/06) — Israel’s plan to annex areas in West Bank, as agreed by Benjamin Netanyahu from Likud Party and his coalition Benny Gantz from Blue and White Party, has been strongly condemned by a member of the Indonesian Parliament member in the Commission 1, Sukamta.
Sukamta said, the plan is extremely dangerous and could undermine prospects for peaceful resolutions between Palestine and Israel, as said in his written statement.
“Israel’s plan to annex the West Bank area is clearly a continuation of the ‘Deal of the Century’ agenda agreed by the United States and Israel, without any consent by the Palestine” Sukamta said.
At the time, he continues, the US gave a green light for Israel to expand the Jewish settlement in the West Bank area.
“If this is tolerated, Palestinian officials estimated that Israel would annex 30 and 40 percent of the West Bank, including the Eastern Jerusalem. This is a form of state occupation that should be stopped by the international community” Sukamta said.
Sukamta, as the Deputy of the PKS Faction in the House, also praised a quick response by the Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi that send letters to 30 countries urging the members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to reject the Israeli plan. She also suggested it in the virtual Extraordinary Ministerial Meeting of the OIC on Wednesday (10/6/2020) to oppose the idea.
“We hope that our government continues to rally broader support from the international community, not only from the OIC members but also from our European counterparts” he stated.
We understand, Sukamta said, that many countries are struggling to face the COVID-19 Pandemic.
“But the annexation plan is also dangerous, this is a grave violation of human rights”, said Sukamta.
Sukamta, as the Head of the Overseas Structure and Development PKS Party Advisory Council (DPP), hopes that the government uses its position as a non-permanent United Nations security council member to initiate a resolution to Israel’s proposed annexation.
“The point is that we need to do anything in our power to resist the plan. We also hope that Indonesian people are also active to oppose the idea through their social media. We heard that Netanyahu will come forward with the plan on July the 1st. The world must bound together to fight this” he closes.
